What Does a Personal Trainer Do?

Most of us are used to or have experienced coaching at some point of our lives; either in our childhood throughout our athletic endeavors or now in our adulthood through our career. Good salespeople are good because of the work they put in day in and day out; they’re coachable individuals and strive for guidance and advice from those that are more learned than them. Take this exact same concept and frame it in the world of fitness and your goals and boom: you’ve arrived at personal training!

A personal trainer is a fitness professional who has studied the art of working out and the many aspects that surround it. Fitness, like many other things relating to our bodies, is based in science and there are what can seem to be a never ending stream of concepts we have to learn to become proficient in it. Personal trainers have devoted their careers to becoming comfortable with these concepts so that they can teach and explain them better to their clients.

There are many different fitness goals (losing weight, building lean muscle mass, getting stronger, or simply becoming more functional) and personal trainers have the tools and knowledge necessary to steer you in the correct direction to achieve your specific goal. Getting stronger and putting on muscle mass are not necessarily the same thing, there are different optimal methods for getting the best results in each area. A trainer is well versed in these methods and can break them down in an easy, understandable way so that you aren’t wasting your time (and your body!) doing incorrect things in the gym.

In short, a personal trainer is a one-stop wealth of knowledge in the gym, they can guide you through the various aspects of fitness and are a great aspect when it comes to accomplishing your fitness goals!
